Commercial standards / 2026
Advertising and sponsorship
Our approach to clearly labeled commercial communication.
1. Separation
Advertising is kept distinct from independent editorial material through labels, placement, and design.
2. Accepted categories
We consider services and products that are relevant to reading, movement, access, or everyday wellbeing.
3. Prohibited claims
We do not accept fear-based promises, misleading guarantees, or language that pressures a reader.
4. Review
Commercial copy receives a basic standards review before publication. This review does not create an endorsement.
5. Sponsors
A sponsor may support a series but cannot select conclusions or suppress an unfavorable editorial view.
6. Disclosure
Material relationships are disclosed near the relevant placement and described in plain language.
7. Audience data
We do not sell identifiable contact details to advertisers. Grouped reports are used only when appropriate.
8. Corrections
Readers may report a misleading commercial statement. We review the placement and ask the advertiser to correct it.
9. Termination
We may remove material that conflicts with these standards, applicable law, or reader safety.
10. Revision
This policy was updated 14 October 2026. Changes are dated at the top of this page.
11. Contact
Advertising inquiries should use contact.php and include the organization, category, and proposed placement.
Before accepting a placement, Derive records the advertiser or sponsor name, proposed category, landing-page address, intended audience, duration, and person responsible for the submission. Commercial copy is checked for clear identification, factual wording, and consistency with the publication's informational character. A basic review does not verify every claim made by an independent advertiser, and no placement should be read as an editorial conclusion.
Audience information is handled in grouped form where possible. We do not provide advertisers with identifiable contact details from editorial correspondence, and a sponsor does not receive a private list of readers merely because it supports a series. Placement records are retained for 24 months after the campaign ends; complaint records may be retained for the same period where needed to document a decision. Hosting or measurement providers may process limited technical data under their own service terms and the cookie choices described in cookies.php.
Requests and complaints may be sent through contact.php, to 120 Cihampelas Street, Bandung, West Java 40131, Indonesia, or by phone at +62 22 731 8975. We aim to acknowledge a commercial standards concern within 10 working days and complete a review within 30 calendar days. This policy was reviewed on 14 October 2026 and is scheduled for review in October 2027, with material changes dated at the top of the page.
Separation applies to labels, typography, page position, headlines, and the language used around a commercial placement. A reader should be able to understand when a message is paid, sponsored, or supplied by an outside organization without studying fine print. Commercial copy does not receive the same editorial treatment as an independent article, and an article does not become commercial simply because it links to a public source. Derive may reject a placement when the distinction cannot be made clearly.
Before review, an advertiser should provide the organization name, landing-page address, category, audience, proposed dates, and a contact person. The basic review looks for clear identification, factual wording, understandable conditions, and consistency with applicable requirements. It does not verify every external statement or create a personal recommendation for the advertiser. Records of the submission and decision may be retained for 24 months after the placement ends.
Derive does not share identifiable editorial contact details with advertisers. Grouped reports may describe page views, device categories, approximate regions, or campaign dates when appropriate, but they are not presented as a private reader list. Hosting, security, email, and optional measurement providers may process limited technical data under their service agreements and the cookie choices described in cookies.php. Some providers may operate outside Indonesia, with transfer safeguards considered before use.
A reader can report a misleading, unclear, or incorrectly labeled placement through contact.php. The desk aims to acknowledge the report within 10 working days and review it within 30 calendar days, including a request for clarification from the advertiser where necessary. Derive may pause or remove a placement while the review is open when continued display would create a material concern. Advertising questions should include the organization, category, proposed placement, and contact details.
This policy was reviewed on 14 October 2026 and is scheduled for review in October 2027, or sooner if applicable requirements or the site's commercial model changes. Contact is available through 120 Cihampelas Street, Bandung, West Java 40131, Indonesia, and +62 22 731 8975. A dated change note will be added when the standards change materially. The current policy does not authorize restricted or misleading commercial categories.
